Bath Sheet, Towel, Bath Linen: What’s the Difference?

Before diving into how to choose the right bath linen, let’s clarify a few terms. Words matter — and yes, a bath sheet is quite different from a bath towel.

Bath Sheet vs. Bath Towel

The main difference lies in size: a bath sheet is always larger than a bath towel. We’ll get into exact dimensions later in the article, but if you're looking for comfort at home, we highly recommend opting for a bath sheet.

The term “bath linen” refers to all fabric items used to dry or absorb moisture from the body. A full RKF bath linen set typically includes:

  • Bath sheet

  • Bath towel

  • Face towel

  • Wash mitt

  • Guest towel (hand square)

  • Spa headband

  • Bath mat

  • Spa slippers

  • Bathrobe

  • Baby bath cape

Materials and Fabric Weight (GSM)

When shopping for bath linen, you've likely noticed various materials and grammages (GSM = grams per square meter). Here's how to understand the differences and pick the best one for your needs:

Classic Terry Cloth (600 gsm)

Often referred to as looped terry or towel terry, this fabric is mainly composed of cotton. It's widely used for towels and bath sheets due to its excellent absorption capacity. The softness, durability, and absorbency depend on the cotton quality and fabric weight.
At RKF Home, all our terry bath linen features a luxurious 600 gsm weave.

Velour (420 gsm)

Made from cotton as well, velour has a short, smooth pile instead of visible loops. This makes it lighter and softer, but slightly less absorbent than traditional terry. Velour towels have a plush, elegant look and feel.

Honeycomb (Waffle Weave)

Known for its unique textured pattern, waffle weave is lightweight, breathable, and dries quickly. It's often used for spa-style robes.
At RKF Home, we offer waffle bathrobes lined with terry on the inside — combining the best of both worlds.

Dreamsoft by RKF Home (360 gsm)

.

This is our patented fabric, designed specifically for luxury hotels and spas. It features a double-sided structure:

  • One side has a high-density interior for optimal absorbency

  • The other side offers a soft and plush feel for ultimate comfort.

What Does GSM Mean?

GSM (grams per square meter) is a measure of the density of a fabric. The higher the GSM, the thicker, softer, and more absorbent the towel.

  • 400–500 gsm: Light to midweight – suitable for travel or quick-drying towels

  • 600 gsm and above: Considered luxury-grade – plush, absorbent, and long-lasting

.

What Size Should You Choose?

Here are the standard dimensions commonly found in bath linen collections:

  • 70×140 cm → Standard bath sheet
Ideal for full-body coverage after a bath or shower.

  • 50×100 cmBath towel
Great for drying off quickly or packing for travel. Also suitable for hair and face.

  • 30×50 cmFace towel
Specifically designed for the face and hair.

  • 30×30 cmGuest towel / Hand square
Perfect as a guest towel for hand drying in the bathroom.
